MEET THE MAKER
Born and raised in Sydney, Mimi’s creative journey truly began when she moved to the sunny south coast of Ulladulla. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the region, she found herself inspired and drawn to the charm of vintage fabrics. Frequenting local op-shops, Mimi began collecting unique finds—from flower power prints and hand-crocheted bedspreads to terry toweling blankets. Each fabric sparked her imagination, and soon she decided to teach herself how to sew.
What started as a self-taught hobby quickly felt like second nature. With a natural flair and creative patience, Mimi mastered the art of transforming these nostalgic fabrics into beautiful, handmade garments. Her passion for upcycling and sustainable fashion grew, and she eventually moved north to Byron Bay, a place she had long been drawn to. Bringing her large vintage fabric stash along, Mimi’s journey continued, merging her love of creativity with her commitment to conscious living.
Alongside her love for crafting, Mimi has always held a deep passion for animals and wildlife conservation. After studying conservation and working hands-on with wildlife, she decided to merge her two passions in a meaningful way. Mimi named her clothing label KHANUN after an elephant she worked with during her time at the Surin Project, an elephant rescue initiative in Thailand.
Through her sustainable clothing brand, Mimi aims to raise awareness for the Surin Project and other wildlife species in need, combining fashion with a purpose-driven mission to protect and preserve the world’s most vulnerable animals.
Mimi now resides in the sunny Wide Bay region, where she and her partner have purchased their dream property. Together, they are building a healthy, self-sufficient lifestyle on a 5-acre hobby farm. After her time in Lennox Head, Mimi moved to Brisbane, where she spent two years expanding her business, gaining new stockists, and collaborating with brands and magazines such as Peppermint Magazine. She also sponsored health retreats and women in business keynote speaker events, proudly showcasing her handmade brand.
No matter where she goes, Mimi continues to participate in markets, sharing the story of her sustainable clothing label, KHANUN, and spreading the word about conscious fashion.
